Its thumbs, being able to hold tools, throw things and handle objects with ease is a great evolutionary tool.

Great question, not random! This is a big topic in evolutionary research and it is said to be lots of factors that contribute. I reckon that the biggest advantage we had was the mastering of fire so that we could keep warm and cook our food. Cooking food helps extract much more nutrients and we could feed our brains much better. That gave humans a big advantage over other species and accelerated our intelligence!

Great question! Felix and Liam gave great answers. Fire and opposable thumbs are two major answers.

Apparently as a species we are able to run for longer than a lot of other animals, so our endurance in running played an important role for early humans obtaining food.
