The most interesting thing about nuclear reactions is what they can tell us about the nucleus and how the protons and neutrons stick together. The probability of a reaction happening, or not, can help us determine the shape of the nucleus or the rate at which heavy elements are produced in stars. It’s nuclear reactions that created the elements that we see today, so by studying them we can try to work out how we came into existence and the origin of the elements.
