I personally think the next major development in travel will be related to public transport. As urban areas like city’s get busier and denser we need quicker, more reliable and more efficent methods for people to get around. Part of me hopes well get futurama style transport pipes but it’ll probably be something like a combination of automated busses and taxis as well as improvements to rail and tram services.

I take the train from Liverpool to Manchester every day, so I really hope we find better forms of transport soon! š
In the short-term, I think self-driving cars and electric vehicles could make a big change to how we travel every day. Neither of these inventions will make travel any faster, but they could help to reduce the number of traffic jams, and cut down on air pollution in city centres.
I love the idea that we could have flying cars and tubes that wizz people around the city in little pods. But I think sensible advances will come in using mass transport more effectively. Combining high-speed and local trains will get us around the country quicker and improving efficiency in air travel will get us around the world in a more environmentally friendly way. The Concorde aeroplane could travel from London to New York Iām just over 3 hours, travelling at twice the speed of sound, but problems with how much it cost and the noise it made (plus a devastating crash) meant that they discontinued it. The technology is clearer there for faster air travel, so it may come back again in the near future.
